Forex Session Hours in UAE Time: When the Market Is Actually Open
The forex market is open from Sunday evening to Friday evening GST, but the session you trade matters more than the clock.
| Session | GST | UTC | What moves |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney | 02:00-11:00 GST | 22:00-07:00 UTC | Thin liquidity, AUD/NZD pairs move first. |

| London | 12:00-21:00 GST | 08:00-17:00 UTC | Highest volume of the day; majors trend. |

The forex market opens Sunday evening and closes Friday evening in UAE time
Currency trading runs continuously through the working week, so the market opens late Sunday evening GST and closes late Friday evening GST. There is no single opening bell. Instead, four financial centres take turns, and each brings its own liquidity and character.
Because the UAE sits between Asia and Europe, your trading day overlaps Tokyo in the morning, London from midday, and New York from late afternoon. That geography is convenient. You can watch the Asian open before work, the London open at lunch, and the New York open in the evening without changing your sleep.
The practical question is not whether the market is open but whether the session you are watching suits your schedule and your approach. A quiet Asian range behaves very differently from a London breakout.
Sydney and Tokyo cover the UAE morning, London takes the afternoon
Sydney runs from 02:00 to 11:00 GST, so the trading week begins while most of the country sleeps. Tokyo follows from 04:00 to 13:00 GST, which means the Asian session is in full flow during your morning commute and working hours.
Liquidity in these hours is thinner than later in the day. Ranges can be narrower and sudden moves less common, though Japanese and Australian data releases still create activity. If your schedule only allows early trading, this is the window you will know best.
London then opens at 12:00 GST and runs to 21:00 GST. For anyone in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, this is the most convenient major session: it starts around lunchtime and covers the whole afternoon and early evening.
New York runs through the UAE evening, and the overlap is the busiest window
New York trades from 17:00 to 02:00 GST, so the American session unfolds during your evening. That suits residents who cannot watch charts during the working day, though it does mean late finishes if you trade the close.
The London and New York sessions overlap between 17:00 and 21:00 GST. Both centres are active at once, which typically brings the deepest liquidity and the strongest reactions to US and European data. For many UAE-based traders this four-hour window is the one worth planning around.
After 21:00 GST, London has closed and New York runs alone until 02:00 GST. Moves can still happen, particularly around US afternoon announcements, but conditions thin out as the evening progresses.
Your broker's platform clock and your bank's transfer times are separate matters
Session times tell you when markets are active. They do not tell you when your broker processes a deposit. Funding by bank transfer, local transfer, card or international wire each has its own cut-off and settlement pattern, and these are set by the broker and your bank, not by the forex market.
Before you rely on money arriving in time for a session, check the broker's funding page for processing times and confirm the expected arrival window in your banking app. If you are unsure whether a firm may serve UAE residents, the CMA register of licensed companies at uaecma.gov.ae is the public starting point onshore.
Remember that three regimes coexist here: the Capital Market Authority onshore, the DFSA in the DIFC and the FSRA in the ADGM. Which licence a broker holds determines who handles a complaint, so it is worth knowing before you open an account rather than after.
Pick one window and stay consistent rather than chasing every open
A common mistake is trying to trade Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York in the same week. Each session has a different rhythm, and switching between them makes it hard to judge whether your results come from a method or from the hour you happened to choose.
If your working day is fixed, the London afternoon or the London-New York overlap usually fits best. If your evenings are free, New York alone may suit you. If you only have early mornings, accept the quieter Asian conditions and adjust expectations accordingly.
Whichever window you choose, note the times in your own calendar in GST and review them when daylight saving changes in London or New York. Those shifts move the overlap, even though your local clock does not change.
Questions
The trading week opens late Sunday evening GST with the Sydney session at 02:00 GST, though activity is light at the very start. The market then runs continuously until late Friday evening GST, when New York closes at 02:00 GST. There is no single daily opening time; each centre opens in turn.
London trades from 12:00 to 21:00 GST. That makes it the most convenient major session for UAE residents, covering lunchtime through to the early evening. Note that London daylight saving shifts these hours on your calendar twice a year, even though GST itself never changes.
The London-New York overlap, from 17:00 to 21:00 GST, is generally the busiest window because two major centres are active together. Liquidity is deepest and reactions to data are usually clearest. That said, the best window is the one you can watch consistently, so match it to your own schedule rather than to volume alone.
